  • Brookhaven BI-870 Dielectric Constant Meter

The Brookhaven Instruments BI-870 Dielectric Constant Meter can accurately measure in low and high Dielectric solvents, including mixed liquids and solutions. Simply insert the probe in the liquid to be measured, adjust the two controls on the front panel and read the dielectric constant from the display.

Good Zeta Potential determinations of suspended colloidal particles depend on an accurate knowledge of the dielectric constant of the liquid. For a range of particles of interest a number of different liquids may be used, including mixtures of various proportions creating the need for an accurate measurement of dielectric constant. While literature values of dielectric constants are suitable when using pure liquids values are not readily available for mixtures of liquids. There are no generally acceptable methods of calculating values for mixtures from pure component values. For example, weighting by mole fraction leads to errors of 17% and 6% for the two mixtures. Weighting by volume leads to errors of -8% for Methanol/Water and 2.4% for Dichloro Methane/Benzene respectively.

    Features:

    • Absolute Accuracy to ± 2%
    • Sensitivity ranges: 1-20 and 1-200
    • Crystal Controlled Frequency
    • Open Structure Probe
    • Easy to clean
    • Reliable and robust
  • Brookhaven BI-DCP Disc Centrifuge Photosedimentometry

The Brookhaven BI-DCP is a High Resolution Particle Size Analysis Digitally Controlled, High Resolution, Particle Size Distribution Analyzer. It yields high resolution results in the size range from 0.01 to 30 microns with typical analysis times ranging from 5 to 30 minutes. The DCP software provides easy instrument control, data analysis, and database management. The software is menu-driven and permits a variety of report formats.

No other type of instrument can resolve several peaks in the difficult range around 1 micron.

Brookhaven Instruments is renowned for light scattering instruments dedicated to sub-micron particle sizing and polymer characterization. Having identified the need to produce high resolution in the 1 micron size range, Brookhaven has produced an instrument with resolution unmatched by any other technique in this range. Sedimention is intrinsically a fractionation technique and the BI-DCP provides a means to separate the components of mixtures and also characterize a wide variety of distributions.

    Features:

    • Resolves particle sizes in complex mixtures
    • Simple, rapid operation, stable
    • No calibration necessary, exact derivations
    • Suitable for a wide range of sizes and densities
    • External and internal gradient
    • Quantitative determination of weight distributions
    • Customizable analysis and reports
    • Continuous monitoring of temperature
  • Brookhaven DNDC Refractometer

The Brookhaven Instruments BI-DNDC Refractometer is a deflection type Refractometer that may be purchased for use in either batch or GPC/SEC mode. In batch mode, the specific refractive index increment, dn/dc, is determined. This value is required as a parameter in molecular weight measurements using light scattering. In GPC/SEC mode, dn/dc is already known, and the instrument is used as a concentration detector for GPC/SEC applications.

All major features are user programmable in order to achieve the maximum flexibility. The BI-DNDC can be set using the front panel controls and read using the LED readout or by an external computer. It includes a microprocessor, which allows user-friendly handling of all functions of the instrument, as well as refractive index and temperature data transfer to a personal computer via a standard serial interface.

Most importantly, warm-up time for the BI-DNDC is only one hour, much less than other models on the market.

    Features:

    • Fast instrument warm-up, ~ 1 hour!
    • Sensitivity, 2.5 x 109 ?RIU
    • Autozero
    • Reference cell flush
    • 9 Measurement ranges
    • DNDCW Windows™ software
    • Active temperature control to 80 °C
    • Wavelength selection: 620, 535 or 470 nm
  • Brookhaven Molecular Weight Analyser

The Brookhaven Instruments BI-MwA has the highest performance/price ratio of any light scattering detector used for molecular weight determination. Eliminate SEC/GPC column calibration and improve data quality. Rapidly reduce uncertainty with no assumptions required and true extrapolation to zero angle. Quickly, easily, and accurately determine absolute molecular weights of proteins and polymers. Inject your sample into the low-volume, 7-angle flow cell. The sample is illuminated by a temperature stabilized, precision power-controlled diode laser. The ultra-stable, high-sensitivity, low-noise CCD detector automatically collects the scattered light. Then, the software extrapolates the data to zero angle for the absolute molecular weight determination.

    Features:

    • Multiangle, laser light scattering detector for SEC/GPC or stand alone use
    • Proteins & polymers
    • Polysaccharides & biopolymers
    • Study protein aggregation, oligomerization, & complex formation
    • Mn, Mw, Mz, Rg, A2
    • Small footprint, stackable
    • RI and Viscosity detectors optional
  • Brookhaven RIVS Refractometer & Viscosity Detector for MwA

The Brookhaven Instruments BI-RIVS is a combination RI and Viscometry detector used in SEC/GPC determinations of the MWD using universal calibration. A true Dual-Detector, Refractometer and Viscometer, the only one of its kind available. The Refractometer is an integral component of the Viscometer bridge, measurement of concentration AND Viscosity take place on the exact same sample segment, at the very same time. Compared to the more common “external” connection of the two detectors, the BI-RIVS Dual-Detector provides a factor of 2 to 5 higher sensitivity, near ZERO delay volume and unsurpassed overall performance.

    Features:

    • Dual Detector
    • Zero Dead Volume
    • Highest Sensitivity
    • Temperature Range to 80 °C
